My Goal
"A Soo for you and your family"
1 / More Family Doctors 2022 Promise
Being on Council the last 4 years I have been a strong supporter for this council to invest more into our physician recruitment. The city is currently committed $150,000 in funding per year. This has been a very successful investment because we have recruited 16 new Doctors to the Soo in the last 4 years.
2 / Downtown Development 2022
I wanted and still want to create a weekend pedestrian zone along Queen St. from Dennis St. to East St. This is something most European cities have Friday to Sunday night. It would allow us to expand festival areas and re-energy the downtown core. Cost would be minimal we would just need to block off the street. Over the last 4 years we have increase the activity downtown by activating space. What has been accomplished downtown has be controverial and expensive the for results.
3/ Opioid Crisis 2022
This Council has been successful in procuring funding for a HART Hub from the Provincial Government. This is a new chapter in the fight against addiction. The HART Hub primary focus is treatment and recovery. This is a drastic change in the model of Safe Infection Sites which would have allowed and enabled self harm and destructive behaviours and habits to continue.
My Goal
"A Soo for you
and your family"
4/ Dog Parks 2022
Currently on the books the Park and Recreation department has Council approval for a new dog park.
5/ EV Chargers 2022
As someone who drives a Plug-in Hybrid I have noticed the lack of available EV charging options in our city. We have seen an increase in EV charging option throughout the Soo. But the increase came from Federal, Provincial and Private Sector. Most city owned parking lots still to not have EV Charging. Ultimately the choice of EV or Gas is a personal decision but the city does need to create the infrastructure of the future today.
6/ Public Transit and Parabus 2022
I supported free transit. But our transit it system in currently costing the taxpayer at least $10 million a year because it is cannot sustain itself. This Council has recognized that transit system is struggling and we revamped that routes with "Soo Loops". The jury is still out if the change has improved service. But a movement is growing to reassess because it was a swing and a miss.
